Mentioned in historical records such as the Periplus of the Erythraean Sea, Kadalundi was once a thriving port town with trade links to Rome and Arabia. Over the centuries, it evolved under the rule of the Chera dynasty, regional chieftains, and later colonial powers, leaving behind a layered heritage that still defines the region's identity.
Culturally, Kadalundi stands out for its deep-rooted traditions and communal harmony. The iconic Kadalundi Vavulsavam, dedicated to Pediaattu Bhagavathi, is one of Malabar’s most significant religious festivals and reflects the region's spirit of unity, where people from all communities participate collectively.

കടലുണ്ടിയെക്കുറിച്ച്
കടലുണ്ടി മലബാർ പ്രദേശത്തെ ചരിത്രപരവും പ്രകൃതി വൈവിധ്യസമ്പന്നവുമായ ഒരു തീരദേശ മേഖലയാണ്. കടലുണ്ടി നദി അറബിക്കടലുമായി സംഗമിക്കുന്ന ഈ പ്രദേശം പുരാതനകാലം മുതൽ തന്നെ വാണിജ്യവും സാംസ്കാരികവുമായ ഇടപെടലുകളുടെ കേന്ദ്രമായിരുന്നു.
പെരിപ്ലസ് ഓഫ് ദ എരിത്രിയൻ സീ എന്ന ചരിത്രഗ്രന്ഥത്തിൽ തുറമുഖ പട്ടണമായി പരാമർശിക്കപ്പെട്ട കടലുണ്ടിക്ക് റോമും അറേബ്യയും ഉൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള വിദേശരാജ്യങ്ങളുമായി വ്യാപാരബന്ധങ്ങളുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ചെറരാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ ഭരണകാലം മുതൽ പ്രദേശിക ഭരണാധികാരികളുടെയും കോളനിഭരണത്തിന്റെയും കാലഘട്ടങ്ങൾ കടലുണ്ടിയുടെ ചരിത്രത്തിൽ അടയാളപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.
ഇന്ന് കടലുണ്ടി–വള്ളിക്കുന്ന് കമ്മ്യൂണിറ്റി റിസർവ് (പക്ഷിസങ്കേതം), മാൻഗ്രോവ് വനങ്ങൾ, നദീമുഖ പരിസ്ഥിതി എന്നിവ കടലുണ്ടിയെ കേരളത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഇക്കോ-ടൂറിസം കേന്ദ്രമായി ഉയർത്തുന്നു.
പെഡിയാട്ട് ഭഗവതിയെ ആചരിക്കുന്ന വാവുൽസവം കടലുണ്ടിയുടെ മതസൗഹാർദ്ദത്തിന്റെയും സാമൂഹിക ഐക്യത്തിന്റെയും ശക്തമായ പ്രതീകമാണ്.
